Police Arrest Two in Murder of Ebonyi Monarch Franci Igw

The police have arrested two suspects linked to the murder of traditional ruler Franci Igw in Ebonyi State. Igw was abducted on March 1, 2026, and his death was confirmed by police on March 2.

Joshua Ukandu, the police public relations officer, stated that an intensive operation was launched immediately following the abduction report. Utilizing technical intelligence assets, the police apprehended the two suspects, who reportedly confessed to the murder and provided information leading to the recovery of the monarch's remains.

During the operation, gang members allegedly opened fire on the police, leading to a gun battle in which some criminals were neutralized while others fled. A total of nine suspects have been arrested, and a pistol was recovered during the operation.

The slain traditional ruler's remains have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, and efforts to arrest additional fleeing gang members are ongoing.
