Ebonyi Governor Condemns Murder of Traditional Ruler

Governor Franci Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State condemned the murder of traditional ruler Josephat Nnanna Ikegwu Obinir II, describing the act as barbaric and unacceptable. The monarch was reportedly killed by gunmen on Wednesday night, which sparked outrage across the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Mondai Uzor, Governor Nwifuru expressed deep grief and described the murder as gruesome and senseless, shaking the conscience of the Ebonyi people.

He emphasized that the act was an attack on the revered traditional institution that unites and stabilizes the state. The governor directed a joint security architecture to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice without delay.

He extended condolences to the family of the late monarch and the people of Ishinkwo community in Onicha Local Government Area, assuring them that the government would not tolerate acts of violence. Ogbofia Ikechukwu, the Executive Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, also condemned the murder, calling for a thorough investigation.
