Police Arrest Two Suspected Bandits in Kwara State

On June 6, 2026, the Kwara State Police Command conducted an operation that led to the arrest of two suspected bandits, Bello Moham (28) and Abubakar Moham (25), in Okuta, Baruten Local Government Area. The operation, carried out by the Violent Crime Response Unit in collaboration with personnel from the Okuta Division Police Headquarters, resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 65 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, two cutlasses, two tubes, a dagger, a mobile phone, and a power bank.

Preliminary investigations linked the suspects to a criminal network involved in kidnappings and violent crimes in Baruten and neighboring communities. During interrogation, Abubakar Moham confessed to being part of a group responsible for such activities and disclosed that he had sustained injuries during previous encounters with security operatives, resulting in the loss of three fingers.

Further intelligence gathering led to the arrest of Umoru Saliu (58) on June 7, 2026, who allegedly provided accommodation for members of the criminal network. The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, described the operation as a major breakthrough in the ongoing efforts against violent crime in the state.
