Police Arrest Kidnap Kingpin, Seizes AK-47 in Kwara

On June 1, 2023, the Kwara State Police Command, through its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), conducted an operation in the Tabida area of Baruten Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of Umar Abubakar, a suspected leader of a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing communities in Kwara North. The operation was initiated based on intelligence reports and resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and fully loaded magazines, believed to be used by the gang.

Following the arrest, Abubakar was transferred to the VCRU for further investigation. The police emphasized that this operation represents a significant setback for criminal networks in the area and is a major step toward improving security for residents.

The Kwara State Police Command, led by Adekimi Ojo, commended the officers involved in the operation and reassured the public of their commitment to tackling crime across the state. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the probe.
