Woman Arrested for False Kidnap Claims in Edo State

Uzebor Emmanuel, popularly known as a social media influencer, was arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly spreading false claims regarding the kidnapping of students at Green Park Academy in Aduwawa, Benin City. The police command had previously debunked these claims, which had generated unnecessary public concern.

In a statement released on Sunday, the police spokesperson, SP Eno Ikoedem, noted that Emmanuel knowingly disseminated false information through various social media posts, alleging that six individuals were kidnapped and that ransom was paid. This misinformation heightened public anxiety and undermined confidence in the state's security architecture.

The police reiterated that spreading false information related to public safety is a serious offense with far-reaching consequences. Emmanuel will face charges in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The police advised the public to verify information from credible sources and to refrain from using social media to spread falsehoods that could disturb public peace and order.
