Police Launch Rescue for 15 Abducted on Calabar Waterway

The Cross River Police Command, represented by ASP Sundai Eitokpah, announced the commencement of a rescue operation for 15 passengers who were abducted by gunmen on the Calabar–Oron waterway. This operation began following an ambush on a ferry transporting passengers from Calabar in Cross River State to Oron in Akwa Ibom State.

The police are working in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom Command and the Nigerian Navy to ensure the safe recovery of the victims and the swift apprehension of the perpetrators. The Calabar–Oron waterway is a crucial inland maritime corridor that has gained notoriety for piracy and kidnapping incidents, exacerbated by the complex network of creeks and mangroves that provide cover for such criminal activities.
