Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper in Rivers State

On March 20, 2023, the Rivers State Police Command, under the leadership of CSP Grace Iring Koko, responded to a foiled abduction attempt in Port Harcourt. A 35-year-old resident, Fadi Nasser, raised the alarm after armed men attempted to abduct him along Orogbum Crescent in the Government Reserved Area (GRA).

The assailants fired gunshots during the incident, but the victim managed to escape unharmed. Following the alarm, police conducted an investigation that led to the recovery of a mobile phone believed to belong to one of the suspects.

Utilizing technical intelligence, the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit tracked the device, resulting in the arrest of Joseph Abibo. During interrogation, Abibo provided information that led police to the gang's hideout, where a gun battle ensued, causing six gang members to flee.

Police recovered two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and 108 rounds of live ammunition. Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing as part of a renewed initiative to dismantle kidnapping networks in the state.
