Kogi Police Deny Kidnapping Claims on Kabba-Oken Road

On June 17, 2026, the Kogi State Police Command addressed and dismissed claims circulating on social media regarding a kidnapping incident along Kabba-Oken Road. Police spokesperson Oyiza Salisu clarified in a statement that no kidnapping occurred, describing the claims as false and misleading.

The incident involved a commercial bus driven by an indigenous person from Kabba, who was traveling to Ibiloh to load cocoyam. The driver noticed unusual lights ahead and attempted a U-turn, leading to an encounter with individuals approaching an abandoned vehicle near a military checkpoint.

Salisu stated that there were no passengers harmed during the incident, and at the time, no passengers were on board the vehicle. Preliminary findings indicated that the vehicle experienced an electrical fault, which contributed to the situation.

The vehicle was later transferred for transport to its destination without further incident. The police emphasized that there were no formal reports of kidnapping or casualties, and the claims of armed bandit attacks were inaccurate.
