Kogi Police Corporal Kills Colleague and Commits Suicide

On October 23, 2026, Corporal Amos Yusuf allegedly shot and killed Woman Corporal Grace Onimisi before taking his own life at ASCO Camp in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. Both officers were serving members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident through its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, stating that the incident was reported at approximately 11:04 p.m. Preliminary findings indicated that Yusuf, who was on night duty, shot Onimisi before turning the gun on himself.

Investigations revealed that the two officers were in a romantic relationship that had recently ended, with sources suggesting that Yusuf was upset over Onimisi's decision to terminate the relationship. Both officers were taken to separate medical facilities, where they were pronounced dead.

An AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered from the scene. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, with the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased.
