Anambra Police Deny ₦600,000 Demand for Release

The Anambra State Police Command issued a statement denying claims that it demanded ₦600,000 from Ms Nwosu Chikamso Jennifer's sister for her release. Ms Jennifer was arrested on August 31, 2026, as part of an investigation into cult-related killings in Awka, specifically concerning her brother, Nwosu Kenechukwu, who is a person of interest in a murder case.

The police clarified that her arrest was due to her alleged assistance in helping her brother evade arrest, not merely because of her relationship with him. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the police did not demand any financial payment for her release and that she was granted bail after agreeing to cooperate with the investigation.

The statement was prompted by a letter from the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre, signed by its Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, which contained misleading allegations regarding the circumstances of Ms Jennifer's arrest and release.
