Police Detain Suspects in Imo Nursing Student Murder

Wendi Achumba, a 21-year-old nursing student at Merci College of Nursing Science in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area, was found dead off-campus. The Imo State Police Command confirmed the detention of her boyfriend, whose name is withheld, and two suspects, Onyema Okonkwo, 32, and Emmanuel Onyekachi, 25.

The police announced the arrests on Wednesday, revealing that Okonkwo allegedly confessed to raping and killing Achumba. He also implicated Onyekachi as an accomplice.

The investigation is ongoing, with forensic evidence being analyzed. The police stated that anyone found innocent would be released.

Achumba was reportedly undergoing post-basic midwifery training at the time of her death. The suspects were arrested following intelligence-led investigations, and Okonkwo initially reported the incident before being detained as a prime suspect.

The police are collaborating with community stakeholders to further investigate the case.
