Two Arrested for Rape and Murder of Nursing Student

The Imo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Onyema Okonkwo, aged 32, and Emmanuel Onyekachi, aged 25, in connection with the rape and murder of 21-year-old nursing student Wendi Achumba. Wendi, a student at Merci College of Nursing Science, was found dead in a private residence off-campus in Umuadara Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area.

The incident occurred last Thursday. Police spokesperson DSP Henri Okoy stated that Okonkwo confessed to raping and killing Wendi and attempted to conceal the crime, implicating Onyekachi as an accomplice.

The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution. Community members, including traditional ruler Patrick Uwalaka, condemned the crime and called for justice, urging anyone with prior knowledge of the incident to come forward.
