Rivers Police Dissolves Tactical Teams, Forms New Unit

The Rivers State Police Command announced the dissolution of its tactical teams and the creation of a new Violent Crime Response Unit aimed at improving operational efficiency and restoring public confidence in the police. This decision was disclosed by Bless Agab, the public relations officer, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The reform is part of ongoing efforts directed by the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and implemented under the leadership of the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju. The new unit is mandated to respond swiftly and decisively to incidents of violent crime while adhering to established rules and respecting fundamental human rights.

The command has warned officers to desist from extortion and other forms of unprofessional conduct, emphasizing that violations of the Nigeria Police Force's code of conduct will attract strict disciplinary actions.
