Police Officers Dismissed for Kidnapping and Extortion

The Nigeria Police Force announced the dismissal and arrest of several officers involved in alleged criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and extortion, in Rivers State. The announcement was made on May 14, 2026, detailing that the affected officers were linked to a conspiracy involving the unlawful operation of stealing and abusing their positions.

The investigation uncovered a syndicate operating within the area, with specific officers identified, including Inspector Ayanniyi Jelili, Durojay Franci, and Olayemi Titu. Reports indicated that victims were forcibly abducted and had money transferred to cryptocurrency accounts.

Additionally, three officers, Inspector Awel Ogbogu, Inspector Prosper Aghotor, and Corporal Favour Onwuchekwa, were also implicated in the operations. The police recovered three Toyota Sienna buses allegedly used in the operations, along with a sum of N7,338,800 linked to a separate case.

The Inspector General of Police emphasized the commitment to identifying and removing criminal elements within the police force.
