Police Rescue 70-Year-Old Kidnap Victim in Edo State

On April 20, 2026, Jonah Owobu, a 70-year-old farmer, was abducted by gunmen in Uromi, located in the Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Following his disappearance, his wife reported the incident to the police, who received a ransom demand of N30 million for his release.

The Edo State Police Command, led by spokesperson Eno Ikoedem, mobilized a joint operation that included local hunters and military personnel. On April 21, 2026, the operation commenced, resulting in the recovery of Owobu and the discovery of his abandoned motorcycle along a forest path.

The suspects fled into the bush during the operation, and police efforts are ongoing to track and arrest them.
