Delta Police Officer Faces Murder Charges for Shooting

The Delta State Police Command provided an update regarding an officer involved in the shooting of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi. The incident occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, where Ogidi was allegedly apprehended with a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of live ammunition.

The officer, identified as Usman, will face murder charges for shooting Ogidi, who was reportedly restrained and not a threat at the time of the incident. The police command described the officer's actions as a clear violation of police rules and stated that the situation was difficult to explain.

The command assured the public that they would not shield the officer from accountability. Usman, along with a five-man team, has been transferred to the police headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary action.

The police emphasized that the viral video of the incident does not show attempts to restrain Usman during the shooting.
