Delta Police Officer to Face Murder Charges After Shooting

Bright Edaf, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, confirmed that an officer involved in the shooting death of 28-year-old suspect Mene Ogidi will be prosecuted for murder. This incident took place on April 26, 2026, in Effurun during an operation aimed at apprehending Ogidi, who was allegedly attempting to send a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition.

Edaf described the situation as a difficult moment for the police force, emphasizing that the officer's actions violated standard operating procedures. Despite Ogidi pleading for his life, the officer allegedly attempted to shoot him twice.

Disciplinary proceedings have already begun against the officer, and Edaf assured the public that the police do not condone extrajudicial killings. The officer will face charges in court, and further investigations are ongoing, with the case being handled by the police disciplinary committee.
