Police Pursue Suspects in Mob Killing in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for individuals involved in the mob killing of an unidentified man in Ikpe Ikot Akpan Village along the Ikot Ekpene–Uyo Road. This incident occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at approximately 7:05 am, after the deceased was accused of attempting to steal a motorcycle belonging to Idoroenyin Udo.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, preliminary investigations indicated that Udo resisted the theft and raised an alarm, leading to the mob's pursuit and subsequent attack on the suspect. Commissioner of Police Baba Azare condemned the incident, warning against jungle justice and emphasizing that suspects should be handed over to authorities for proper investigation and prosecution.

The police are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend all involved in the mob action, asserting that anyone found culpable will face legal consequences. The investigation is ongoing.
