Kano Police Impound 81 Vehicles for Defaced Number Plates

The Kano State Police Command has impounded 81 vehicles found operating with covered or defaced number plates. Police Commissioner Ibrahim Bakori disclosed this information during a briefing with journalists on Monday, describing the situation as a security threat.

The command has observed an alarming increase in vehicles on the roads with obscured registration numbers, which Bakori stated is not merely a minor traffic offense but a deliberate attempt to create anonymity for criminal activities. He emphasized that the police will not allow Kano State to become a safe haven for such activities.

The command has initiated extensive public sensitization efforts through various media platforms to educate vehicle owners about their responsibilities regarding proper registration and clear display of number plates. Bakori also mentioned that three vehicles were intercepted under suspicious circumstances, and their occupants failed to provide satisfactory accounts regarding ownership.

The police will ensure that the law takes its full course in these matters.
