SDP Leadership Crisis Escalates Amid Police Investigation

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is currently embroiled in a leadership crisis, prompting the Nigeria Police Force to invite members of the National Working Committee (NWC) to address ongoing disputes. SDP National Chairman Sadiq Gomb confirmed the police invitation, although he and other members had not received formal notices.

The invitation is linked to allegations of financial misconduct within the party, particularly concerning former National Chairman Shehu Gabam, who has been accused of misappropriating N626 million. Gabam, alongside Uchechukwu and Clarkson Nnadi, has faced expulsion recommendations due to alleged financial improprieties.

Despite these allegations, Gomb insists that the internal affairs of the party should remain exclusive to its governance structures, emphasizing that the Supreme Court has ruled that leadership matters are to be determined internally. The crisis has escalated following Gabam's attempt to reclaim control of the party's secretariat with armed policemen, deepening the conflict within the SDP.
