FCT Police Lost 140 Officers to Violence in One Year

In a recent statement, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu revealed that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command lost no fewer than 140 officers to violent attacks and duty-related incidents within a one-year period. This alarming statistic underscores the significant risks and sacrifices associated with police work in Nigeria.

During an interaction with members of the Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) in Abuja, Disu highlighted that the demand for police services has increased, requiring officers to work beyond traditional hours. He noted that the conventional shift system is no longer practical due to modern security challenges, leading to officers working virtually around the clock.

Despite these challenges, Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the police force to professionalism and accountability, stating that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face sanctions. He also called for collaboration with the media to promote transparency and build public confidence in security matters.
