FCT Police Launches New Violent Crime Response Unit

The FCT Police Command inaugurated a specialized Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on Monday, aimed at addressing kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes in Abuja and its satellite communities. The unit was established under the directive of Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu as part of efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness and improve public safety.

FCT Commissioner of Police Ahm Sanusi stated that the unit reflects the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to proactively address emerging security threats. The VCRU is strategically divided into five operational sectors to ensure comprehensive coverage and faster response times.

Officers selected for the unit have undergone rigorous training and screening to ensure they meet high professional standards. Sanusi emphasized the importance of upholding human rights and warned against any form of misconduct.

Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya commended the initiative and expressed confidence in the unit's potential impact on security in the FCT. The event also included the presentation of commendation awards to officers for their contributions to joint security operations.
