IGP Disu Raises Alarm Over Rising Police Killings

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Disu lamented the rising number of police officers killed while on duty, particularly highlighting the recent deaths of three officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit in Maiduguri, who were killed while attempting to neutralize an improvised explosive device allegedly planted by insurgents. Disu stated that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to tackling security threats despite the challenges faced.

He mentioned ongoing discussions about creating state police and acknowledged the current inadequacy of personnel to meet operational demands. President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 50,000 police officers, with the process currently at the medical screening stage.

Additionally, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has provided additional operational vehicles to enhance police presence in the state, which is part of efforts to increase manpower and maintain peace.
