Father and Stepmother Arrested for Torturing 12-Year-Old

The Kwara State Police Command arrested Babatunde Mustapha, the biological father of 12-year-old Misturah Babatunde, and her stepmother, Abdulrahman Aisat, for allegedly torturing the girl. The abuse reportedly stemmed from Misturah losing N100 while hawking soya beans for her stepmother.

The incident was uncovered on September 30, 2026, when a concerned resident in the Idigba area of Adewole, Ilorin, noticed the girl buying GV solution from a chemist late at night. Upon questioning her, the girl revealed that she had been beaten with an electrical wire and had her buttocks burnt with a hot coal pot.

The police identified a neighbor, Bashirat Abdulfatai, as an accomplice. The electrical wire and coal pot were listed as evidence.

The case was reported to the police and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department on October 9, 2026, before being referred to the Anti-Human Trafficking, Women and Children Protection Unit. The suspects have been arraigned in court and remanded at the Oke-Kura Correctional Facility.
