Kwara Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper Over Rifle Deal

On August 3, 2026, the Kwara State Police Command arrested Sanda Aliyu, a suspected member of a kidnapping gang, in Kaiama Local Government Area. He was apprehended while negotiating the purchase of an AK-47 rifle for N1.6 million with an accomplice, Aliyu Mohammed, who remains at large.

The arrest followed actionable intelligence that prompted the Anti-Kidnapping Section to act swiftly. During interrogation, Aliyu admitted to his involvement in the arms transaction and revealed that he had already paid N1.6 million towards the purchase.

He stated that the firearm was intended to elevate his status within his gang and eventually lead his own criminal organization. The police, led by Public Relations Officer Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, are conducting further investigations to identify other individuals involved and to understand the extent of the criminal network.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, assured residents of ongoing intelligence-led operations to combat crime in the area.
