Woman Killed Over Witchcraft Accusation in Bauchi

Habse Ubale, a 30-year-old woman, was allegedly hacked to death in Garin Malam Village, Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, following accusations of witchcraft. The Bauchi State Police Command reported that one suspect, Garba Daudu, aged 35, has been arrested, while two others, identified as Ya’u Garba and Musa, remain at large.

The incident occurred around 2:28 a.m. on July 28, when the suspects allegedly invaded the home of Audu Sabo, attacking him and his family based on the belief that Ubale was a witch. During the assault, two minors, Sale Audu (12) and Yakubu Audu (14), were also injured.

The police were alerted on July 29, and a team was dispatched to the scene. Ubale was later confirmed dead at the General Hospital, Gamawa.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and potential prosecution. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the killing and urged the community to avoid violence driven by superstition.
