Police Investigate Ahoada West Chairman for Assault

The Rivers State Police Command is investigating Eugen Epel, the Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, following allegations of assault against Minni Ogadinma. The incident reportedly occurred on a Sunday when Ogadinma recorded a video showcasing the dilapidated state of a local secondary school in Odiokwu Community, seeking government intervention for renovations.

After posting the video, Ogadinma was allegedly confronted by Epel and his younger brother, who physically assaulted her. The police have invited both parties to provide statements to ascertain the facts.

Human rights activist Cheta Nwala condemned the alleged assault, calling it unacceptable in a democratic society and urging the police to investigate and prosecute Epel. Henri Eken from the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights described the attack as disturbing and unbecoming of a public official, emphasizing the need for citizens to report government shortcomings without fear of intimidation.

Epel's chief press secretary, Denni Ezeuwa, labeled the allegations as false and misleading.
