Police Detain Air Peace Buses for Runway Blockage

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the detention of three buses belonging to Air Peace following allegations that they blocked the runway at Lagos Airport during an industrial action by aviation unions on Tuesday. ASP Muhammed Adeola, spokesperson for the Police Airport Command, stated that investigations have commenced to identify the drivers who allegedly obstructed aircraft movement.

Although no arrests have been made, the police believe the buses will assist in determining who drove them onto the runway. The industrial action, which also affected Air Peace's operations at Abuja Airport, was aimed at the airline due to claims that it is the largest debtor to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority regarding the five percent Ticket Sales Charge.

The unions had issued multiple warnings before the strike, asserting that some airlines made it difficult for employees to join trade unions. They described the action as a measure of restraint after giving airlines time to address their grievances.
