Lagos Police Investigate Task Force Extortion Claims

The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into allegations of extortion involving officers from the Lagos State Task Force, led by CSP Adetayo Akerel. This follows the circulation of a viral video on Saturday, which depicted officers allegedly hijacking vehicles and fabricating traffic violations to extort money from motorists.

In the video, a male voice claims that a driver was forced to pay 150,000 Naira to avoid having their vehicle impounded. The Lagos State Police Command acknowledged the video's circulation via its official X account and confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundar Jimoh, has directed a full and urgent probe into the matter.

The command has urged the public to report any similar incidents, emphasizing that appropriate actions will be taken based on the investigation's outcome. This incident is part of a broader wave of public complaints regarding the conduct of the Lagos State Task Force under CSP Akerel's leadership, with multiple similar claims surfacing since March 2026.
