Lagos CP Defends Task Force Against Viral Extortion Claims

The Lagos State Police Command, led by CP Olohundar Jimoh, has defended its task force following the circulation of a viral video alleging extortion by officers. During a press briefing on Monday, Jimoh described the video as misleading and malicious.

The video accused task force officials of unlawfully arresting a driver and demanding money. However, Jimoh stated that preliminary investigations revealed the claims to be false.

The incident in question occurred on March 13, 2026, around 6:30 AM in the Ikorodu area, where officers intercepted Lateef Adeyemo for driving against traffic. Adeyemo attempted to evade arrest, resulting in a collision with a commercial minibus.

Jimoh explained that the video did not capture the full circumstances of the offense. Adeyemo was subsequently arraigned in a mobile court in Oshodi on four counts, including conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and obstruction of public officers.

He was granted bail but later remanded for failing to meet bail conditions.
