Lagos Taskforce Denies Bribery Claims Against Chairman

The Lagos State Taskforce has issued a statement strongly denying allegations of bribery against its chairman, Adetayo Akerele. The agency described the claims circulating online as misleading and defamatory, aimed at tarnishing its reputation.

It emphasized that its enforcement operations are conducted strictly within the legal framework, and any vehicle impoundment follows appropriate legal procedures. The Taskforce stated that it does not unilaterally determine penalties, relying instead on judicial processes for prosecuting traffic violations.

Akerele, a seasoned police officer and alumnus of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, was defended by the agency against what it termed baseless allegations. The Taskforce also criticized the media for failing to balance investigations and urged journalists to uphold professional ethics.

It reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring public safety, encouraging motorists who feel aggrieved by enforcement actions to seek redress through the courts rather than resorting to media campaigns.
