Police Raid IPOB Camp in Imo, Seize Weapons and Drones

On April 23, 2026, the Nigeria Police Force conducted an operation in Imo State, targeting a suspected camp of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), located in Nguru Aboh, Mbaitoli Local Government Area. The operation, part of a nationwide campaign to suppress violent extremism, was based on intelligence obtained from a high-ranking suspect, Ebub Uchenna Mmaduakolam, also known as Ebub Viru.

During the raid, police recovered significant arms, including two general-purpose machine guns, 3,115 rounds of GPMG ammunition, AK-47 assault rifles, a pump-action shotgun, several surveillance drones, and Biafran currency in various denominations. Three suspects were apprehended and are currently in police custody, providing critical information regarding the group's logistics and personnel structure.

The Inspector General of Police commended the operation for its courage and precision, noting that the recovery of these weapons significantly weakens the operational capacity of the IPOB and ESN networks in the southeastern region of Nigeria.
