Police Raid Secessionist Camp, Seize Heavy Arms in Anambra

On May 7, 2023, the Anambra State Police Command, led by CP Ikioy Orutugu, executed a strategic clearance operation at a secessionist camp in Owerr Ezukala, Orumba South Local Government Area. This operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat rising violence, including cult-related killings and kidnappings in the region.

During the raid, police recovered a significant cache of arms, including a general-purpose machine gun, 2,000 rounds of live ammunition, two fabric rocket launchers, 10 locally made improvised explosive devices, a local-made Beretta pistol, two pump-action guns, three hand grenades, and 10 rounds of K2 live ammunition. The operation followed intelligence reports about gang members attempting to regroup after an earlier destruction of the camp.

Additionally, police arrested a suspect, Nnamdi Ogbonna, aged 37, who is allegedly linked to a proscribed secessionist group. The operation also led to the arrest of Favor Izunna, a 22-year-old member of a cult group, and the recovery of more firearms.

The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring safety and security in Anambra State.
