Police Recover Illegal Firearm in Akwa Ibom Operation

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command conducted an intelligence-led operation on July 11, 2026, at the residence of a suspect in Ikot Akpan Afaha Village, Uyo Local Government Area. Following reports of harassment in the community involving firearms, officers searched the premises, leading to the recovery of a single-barrel gun and eight rounds of live ammunition concealed within the residence.

The police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, stated that preliminary investigations are underway to establish the source of the weapon and determine its legality. The suspect's wife, whose name was withheld, confirmed that her husband frequently used the firearm to intimidate and threaten family members, including herself and their children.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azar, reiterated the command's commitment to tackling the proliferation of illegal firearms to ensure public safety and maintain order in the state.
