70% of Kano Crimes Linked to Drug Abuse, Police Report

A police report obtained by PRNigeria reveals that 70% of crimes in Kano State are linked to drug abuse, highlighting the deep-rooted connection between narcotics and organized thug groups engaging in violent clashes and attacks. The report, compiled by the Kano State Police Command and disclosed by Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, notes that 3,081 suspects were arrested for major offenses in 2025, with many linked to drug-related activities.

The illicit drug network is fueling violent crime, leading to deaths and property destruction. The police have initiated a crowdsourcing strategy to gather intelligence on drug networks, receiving 513 names across 44 local government areas.

The report warns that without decisive intervention, the situation will worsen, threatening public safety. It proposes establishing a multi-agency task force, including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and NDLEA, to identify and prosecute drug traffickers.

Additionally, it emphasizes the need for public awareness campaigns and rehabilitation programs for drug addicts to address the crisis effectively.
