Police Rescue 13 Kidnap Victims in Benue After Eight Days

On August 13, 2026, an 18-seater commercial passenger bus traveling from Enugu State to Abuja was abducted along the Ankpechi–Omutele axis in Ohimini Local Government Area, Benue State. After eight days in captivity, the Benue State Police Command successfully rescued 13 victims on the night of August 20, 2026, at Amla-Cho Forest, Otukpo Local Government Area.

The operation followed five days of intense search and rescue efforts based on credible intelligence. During the operation, police operatives engaged in a gun battle with the kidnappers, resulting in the neutralization of one suspect and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and five rounds of ammunition.

The rescued victims were taken to a medical facility for care before being transported to their destinations. Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu praised the personnel for their efforts and urged the public to remain vigilant and provide information to aid in the apprehension of the fleeing suspects.
