Kogi Police Rescue 17 Abducted Islamic School Pupils

On April 26, 2023, police in Kogi State rescued 17 pupils who were abducted from Daarul Kitab School, an Islamic institution located in Zariagi along NNPC Road, Kabba Junction. The attack occurred when gunmen invaded the school, resulting in the abduction of 26 individuals, including 24 pupils and two wives of the proprietor.

ASP Saliu Afusat from the Kogi State Police Public Relations Office confirmed the rescue operation, which was part of a joint effort involving police and military security agencies. The operation is ongoing to secure the release of the remaining nine victims.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Nazir Kankarofi, visited the scene and ordered the deployment of tactical teams to gather intelligence. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the state government spokesperson, condemned the attack and expressed concerns about unregistered schools operating in remote areas, highlighting the security risks they pose in the current climate of insecurity in Nigeria.
