Police Rescue Kidnapped Electrician, Arrest Three Suspects

On April 18, 2026, the Anambra State Police Command conducted a successful operation to rescue a kidnapped electrician in the bush of Awuda, located in the Idemili North Local Government Area. The operation involved a joint security team, including the Rapid Response Squad from Awkuzu and members of the Agunechemba Vigilant Group from Nnobi, acting on credible intelligence.

The police stormed the forest hideout in Umuezeala, Awuda village, where they arrested three male suspects identified as Chidalu Obi (25), Chichebem Ojenigbo (26), and Chikannechukwu Ez (20). The electrician had been lured by the suspects under the pretense of a job opportunity, only to be ambushed, blindfolded, and taken captive at gunpoint.

The suspects had reportedly collected a ransom of N469,000, which was allegedly transferred to a Sportybet account linked to Chidalu Obi. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime.

The police reiterated their commitment to combating criminal elements in the state and urged the public to provide credible information to enhance security efforts.
