Police Rescue Two Children, Arrest Three for Child Theft

On May 10, 2026, the Abia State Police Command successfully rescued two children and arrested three women for child theft. The operation, coordinated by the Akwet Division Headquarters, was based on intelligence and community vigilance.

The arrested suspects are Vera Imiobong Udoyang (30), Chioma Duru Ukanwok (40), and Ezinn Ukandu (41), who are from Akwa Ibom, Imo, and Abia States, respectively. During interrogation, Udoyang confessed to stealing the children by luring them with donuts and soft drinks.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Udoyang had allegedly recruited Ukanwok and Ukandu, who were in contact with an unidentified welfare officer known as Chioma, to arrange the illegal adoption of male children. The police are currently holding the suspects in custody and are working to apprehend additional fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, urged parents and guardians to ensure the safety of their children and report any suspicious individuals to the nearest police station.
