Three Dead in Lagos Clash Over Tricycle Dispute

On Thursday, a violent confrontation in the Ikola axis of Lagos led to the deaths of three individuals and injuries to two others. The Lagos State Police Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebesi, reported that the clash erupted when suspected area boys demanded ₦200 from a tricycle rider, who refused to pay.

Following the refusal, the group allegedly seized the rider's tricycle, prompting him to return with others, which escalated into violence. The deceased and injured were taken to the Military Hospital in Yaba for medical attention.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, along with Brig. Gen. Afolabi Owolabi from the Nigerian Army, visited the scene to assess the situation. The police deployed personnel from various units, including the Rapid Response Squad and the Violence and Cultism Response Unit, to maintain order.

An investigation has commenced, and the police urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
