Police Restore Order After Jalingo Roadblock Disturbance

On Tuesday, the Taraba State Police Command confirmed the restoration of normalcy in Jalingo after a disturbance caused by commercial tricycle riders. The incident began when a rider allegedly attempted to evade a police checkpoint, driving against traffic and colliding with another tricycle, resulting in injuries to a female passenger who required medical attention.

This incident triggered anger among tricycle operators, leading to a protest that blocked roads and caused significant traffic congestion. In response, a joint team comprising personnel from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Mobile Police (Mopol 14), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was deployed to disperse the gathering.

The police noted that minimal force was used to restore order, and the injured passenger was evacuated for treatment. The command urged road users, especially commercial tricycle operators, to obey traffic regulations and cooperate with security agencies to maintain public order.
