Police Impose Movement Restrictions for Kano By-Election

The Kano State Police Command, represented by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, announced a restriction on movement in two local government areas ahead of the by-election set for February 21, 2026. This decision follows a security review meeting conducted by the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

The movement ban will be in effect from 12:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the election day, applying to all motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles, with exceptions for essential services such as ambulances and fire service trucks. Kiyawa emphasized the need for a peaceful, free, fair, credible, and transparent election, detailing that security personnel will enforce guidelines strictly and prohibit the display of political party insignia at polling units.

The command aims to maintain neutrality and prevent voter intimidation, with eligible voters and accredited officials allowed within polling units. The announcement follows the deaths of two lawmakers, Aminu Sa and Sarki Aliyu Daneji, in December 2025.
