Nigerian Police Uncover N7.7bn Telecom Fraud, Arrest Six Suspects

The Nigeria Police Force uncovered a N7.7 billion telecom fraud scheme and arrested six suspects linked to the illegal diversion of airtime and data resources from telecom companies. The fraud involved compromising internal staff login credentials to gain unauthorized access to core systems, leading to an estimated financial loss of N7.7 billion.

The arrests were made during coordinated enforcement operations in Kano, Katsina, and the Federal Capital Territory. Items recovered from the suspects included laptops, mobile phones, a vehicle, and a substantial amount of money.

The suspects will face charges in court as investigations continue. Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and commitment to safeguarding Nigeria's digital financial ecosystem.
