Katsina Police Clarifies Viral Video of Security Volunteers

The Katsina Police Force issued a statement on Wednesday, clarifying that a viral video circulating on social media, which purportedly shows bandits collaborating with police personnel, actually features members of the Nigeria Vigilante Group (VGN). CSP Anieti Okokon Edem, from the public relations office, explained that the video depicts routine interactions between police officers and security volunteers in Musawa Matazu Local Government Area, Katsina State.

The police emphasized that the individuals in the video are duly recognized members of the VGN, who are actively supporting ongoing security operations to combat crime and enhance public safety. The police condemned claims suggesting otherwise as entirely false and malicious, warning that the spread of misinformation could create public anxiety and erode confidence in security institutions.

They urged Nigerians to disregard misleading claims and rely on information released through official police channels, stating that those involved in creating and spreading false information could face legal action.
