Kwara Police Warn POS Operators of Rising Fraud Schemes

The Kwara State Police Command has raised an alarm regarding an increase in fraudulent schemes targeting point of sale (POS) operators. In a statement issued on Monday, spokesperson Adetoun Ejir Adeyemi, on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi, highlighted that criminals are approaching POS operators for large financial transactions, often amounting to millions of naira, under the guise of legitimate transfers.

The police command's intelligence reports indicate that these fraudsters may involve individuals outside the state in these illicit activities. POS operators are warned that they could unknowingly become complicit in these financial crimes, which may lead to their arrest by security agencies.

The command urges operators to be vigilant when handling suspicious or unusually large transactions, particularly those involving unfamiliar customers, and to promptly report any such activities to the nearest police station or security agency.
