Fake Soldier Arrested for Defrauding POS Operator in Kwara

Akinola Tosin was apprehended by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State following a complaint from a point of sale (POS) operator. He allegedly defrauded the operator of ₦40,600 through a fake electronic transfer alert.

Preliminary investigations by the NSCDC uncovered that Tosin possessed a counterfeit military identification card bearing his name, raising suspicions of his impersonation of a Nigerian Army member. Further inquiries revealed that he had used false military identification and related items to gain public trust and facilitate his fraudulent activities.

The NSCDC disclosed that Tosin admitted to being involved in similar fraudulent acts targeting multiple victims. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts intensifying to track and arrest his accomplices.

Items recovered from Tosin include two Opai ATM cards, two UBA ATM cards, two First Bank ATM cards, one PalmPay ATM card, and a national identification card. He will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation, as stated by NSCDC Kwara State Command's Abba Ndah Moham.
