Taraba Clashes: Policeman and Herder Killed, Curfew Imposed

In Taraba State, violent clashes resulted in the deaths of a policeman and a herder, leading to heightened security concerns. The Bali Local Government Council, under the leadership of Hon.

J. Umar, imposed a night curfew in Gembu from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, effective July 6, 2026, to protect lives and property.

The curfew was communicated through a letter signed by Mr. Eric Mathew Vakud, Director of Administration and General Services.

The clashes began in Pangri Village, where a herder allegedly resisted arrest after being accused of damaging farmers' crops. This resistance led to a confrontation where the policeman was shot.

In retaliation, herder neighbors attacked farmers, resulting in ten farmers sustaining serious injuries and several houses being set ablaze. The Taraba State Police Command, represented by ASP Victor Mshelizah, has deployed officers to restore peace and is investigating the incidents.
