Seven Killed in Bauchi Farmers-Herders Clash

A violent clash between farmers and suspected herdsmen in Lanzai community, Darazo Local Government Area, Bauchi State, resulted in the deaths of seven individuals and the destruction of 50 huts. The Bauchi State Police Command, through spokesperson Nafiu Habib, reported that six others sustained varying degrees of injury and are currently receiving medical attention.

The conflict began when suspected Fulani men attacked farmers at a local fertilizer farm on the outskirts of Lanzai. In retaliation, angry youths from the Lanzai community mobilized and set fire to the Fulani settlement in Dosho village.

The police were alerted at 9 AM on Thursday and immediately deployed tactical operations to restore order and prevent further escalation. The Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, directed a thorough investigation into the incident and urged community leaders to maintain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

The state government is also working on policies to address ongoing farmer-herder clashes and promote peaceful coexistence.
