APGA Chairman Advocates for Politics as Part-Time Career

Sly Ezeokenwa, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), articulated during a media interaction in Lagos that politics should not be viewed as a full-time career. He argued that individuals should maintain professional careers outside of politics to discourage corruption and the monetization of the political process.

Ezeokenwa highlighted the party's philosophy of encouraging officials to engage in professions outside politics, thereby promoting accountability and integrity. He also addressed the ongoing debate surrounding the Electoral Act and the legislative process, emphasizing that no single political party should be blamed for legislative shortcomings.

Furthermore, he criticized the public's misunderstanding of the electoral process, particularly regarding the transmission of election results, asserting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has mechanisms in place to enhance transparency. Ezeokenwa called for greater public understanding of Nigeria's electoral system in preparation for future elections, including the 2027 presidential poll.
