Pope Leo XIV Honors Pope Francis on First Death Anniversary

On the first death anniversary of Pope Francis, Pope Leo XIV called on the global Catholic community to remain steadfast in the mission of mercy and fraternity. In a tribute shared via social media on Tuesday, Pope Leo XIV described the late Pope's transition to heaven and highlighted his enduring legacy.

He stated that the words and actions of Pope Francis would remain written in the hearts of the faithful, urging them to carry forth his legacy by proclaiming the joy of the Gospel and announcing God's mercy. Pope Francis passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.

Following his death, Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the first American papal successor, taking the name Pope Leo XIV in May 2025.
